Kinston is the Lenoir County seat and was established in 1762. It is among the oldest cities in North Carolina and is home of the A-advanced league's Kinston Indians.

Lenoir Memorial has opened its first orthopedic clinic, which is going to keep patients from having to travel outside the community for basic procedures. The hospital also has many other community-driven features, such as a full OB-GYN department, cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, radiology and urology. The hospital also has thoracic and vascular surgery capabilities.
